One of my favorite of
the Penske Racing Team. Karl Kainhofer is leaning over looking at something as
Roger Penske has his foot on the tire thinking with Mark in the car. Those 3
guys started a team in 1965 to run a few CanAm races, never dreaming a few
years later they would go on to win the Indianapolis 500 together. Thanks David
L. Stringer for the photo. |
| A great picture of the
AMC Javelin in 1970 during a Trans Am race. Not sure if that is Mark or Peter
Revson. I know it is Revsons car but part of the agreement with Revson was if
Mark's car broke during practice or qualifying he would have to turn his car
over to Mark to contest the race. I know that did happen a couple of times, and
Revson did not care for that too much. |

This is a great picture
of Mark getting in his F1 car before the start of the 1974 United States Grand
Prix. Thanks to Paul Baxter for the great shot. |
| Mark on his second lap
at Talledega, Alabama setting the closed course speed record in August of 1975.
As David Branch who graciously sent this picture says....I can still hear the
sound of the car coming at me, the breaking of the air and a slight engine
sound, then the blast when it went by... |

Bridgehampton, NY
September 1967 CanAm practice. John McGinnis sent this from the starters bridge
during Friday practice. As it was Friday, the sposor decals were not on yet on
the bodywork, so it is very clean. |
| Bridgehampton, NY
September 1968 Can Am winner Mark Donohue at speed, moveable spoiler remains in
"up" position. One of the few "unfair advantage" modifications that didn't work
for Penske/Donohue. Thank You to John McGinnis for the picture. |

Bridgehampton, NY June
68 TransAm race. Starting grid for the race, Mark is taking a few moments to
create a calm before the storm. Thanks to John McGinnis for the great
picture |
| St. Jovite, Quebec,
Canada, June 68 USRRC race up close and personal. This race was very wet, and
the race started in a downpour. Mark was driving the bigblock car and just ran
away from the rest of the field. John McGinnis who took this picture had a 11 X
14 print of this photo made up and gave to Mark at the race shop a few weeks
later. He seemed pleased to have the print, and suspect it was a very
satisfying drive for him. |
